A nighttime blast derailed a locomotive and two tank cars on a freight train and destroyed a portion of the railway in Dagestan, temporarily halting rail traffic between the local cities of Makhachkala and Derbent, emergency officials said.
No one was hurt in the incident, and the tracks were repaired Tuesday, said an Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman, Interfax reported. A blaze engulfed the locomotive after the blast, but it was extinguished by the crew.
